People occasionally send me mp3s, or links to mp3s, hoping I’ll write about them on this blog. Over the weekend, a reader in the UK sent me something more interesting than most other mp3s I receive. He writes:
Just found your site and it says you are pretty good at identifying songs.
I think this one will stump you big time! It was out in the UK between ‘79 and ‘81. I don’t know any of the lyrics, the band or the title. I recorded a (very bad) sample of it via humming, but don’t pay much attention to the quality! See what you can do!
Well, it did indeed stump me. It sounds vaguely familiar, but I can’t place it. So check it out below and see if you can identify it. Then let the whole class know in the comments.

I’ve got some interesting stuff planned for WNEW over the next couple of weeks, so be sure to head over there. I’m also due to put up another edition of “One Day in Your Life” at Popdose this Wednesday, so I’d better get busy.

Over the weekend, he put up a fascinating biography of George Carlin, covering the period from 1956 to about 1970, when Carlin went from being a lowly DJ to a star comic trying to figure out where he fit in Hollywood. It’s one of the most interesting things I’ve read online . . . since Vinyl Record Day, at least. And at Popdose, Jon Cummings goes looking for Satanic messages in records played backward.

This whole mystery song episode me me chuckle.
I’m hoping someone is able to identify it.
No idea what that mystery tune is, but I’m tempted to make it my mobile ringtone.
