Speaking of the Jesus movement of the late 60s/early 70s, in 1970 The Sons of Champlin released Jesus is Coming as a by-request free single. Interested parties had to write in to Capitol Records to get their free copy. Well Oral Roberts got wind of the song and used it heavily for 6 months until he saw a picture of the Sons of Champlin and found them to be a bunch of "drug-smoking reprobates" and quickly pulled the song from his show.

The song was written by then sax player, Tim Cain. To this day, singer/songwriter/keyboardist, Bill Champlin doesn't know whether or not Cain was serious. Cain left the band shortly thereafter (he may have stuck around for 1 more album, but I do know he wasn't in the band after they left Capitol Records).

Today Jesus is Coming is available as a "bonus track" on the CD issue of the Sons of Champlin's 1970 sophomore release The Sons.
